What Anglican and Episcopal churches generally believe
Anglicans believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again, and the Bible as God's Word, expressed in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds and worship from the Book of Common Prayer. The tradition began in the Church of England; it keeps bishops and a liturgical church year, and holds baptism and the Eucharist as the two sacraments of the Gospel. Anglican and Episcopal bodies (e.g. The Episcopal Church, ACNA) differ on some teaching and practice.
Compared with Catholics: Anglican worship and church order — bishops, liturgy, church calendar — are closer to Catholic practice than most Protestant churches, but Anglicans do not recognise the Pope's authority, allow married clergy, and hold the Reformation teaching set out in the Thirty-Nine Articles.
