What Lutheran churches generally believe
Lutherans believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again, and the Bible as God's Word, following Martin Luther's Reformation teaching: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, on the authority of Scripture alone. There are two sacraments — baptism (including infants) and the Lord's Supper, in which Christ's body and blood are truly present. Worship is usually liturgical. Lutheran bodies (e.g. ELCA, LCMS, WELS) differ on some teaching and practice.
Compared with Catholics: Lutheran worship is among the closest to the Mass of any Protestant church, and both believe in Christ's real presence in communion, but Lutherans teach justification by faith alone, recognise two sacraments, and do not accept the Pope's authority.
