General guidance · Vineyard churches · not specific to Houston Vineyard
Intimate contemporary worship music (the Vineyard movement pioneered modern worship), thoughtful preaching, and a strong emphasis on spiritual gifts and community.
Vineyard churches are known for their Spirit-filled yet accessible worship and practical, life-applicable teaching. A warm, come-as-you-are community.
What Vineyard churches generally believe
Vineyard churches believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again, and the Bible as God's Word, with Scripture as the final authority. Shaped by John Wimber in the 1970s and 80s, they combine evangelical teaching with an emphasis on the Holy Spirit's gifts, prayer for healing, and intimate contemporary worship.
Compared with Catholics: they share core teaching about God and Christ, but hold Scripture alone as authority, baptise professing believers, and have no Pope. Compared with Pentecostals, they are open to spiritual gifts without requiring speaking in tongues.
