General guidance · Calvary Chapel churches · not specific to Calvary Chapel Fremont
Contemporary worship followed by in-depth, verse-by-verse teaching through entire books of the Bible. A relaxed atmosphere with a serious commitment to Scripture.
Calvary Chapel churches are known for their verse-by-verse Bible teaching and casual, come-as-you-are culture. You'll feel welcome whether you're a longtime believer or a first-time seeker.
What Calvary Chapel churches generally believe
Calvary Chapel churches believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again, and the Bible as God's Word, with Scripture as the final authority. Started by Chuck Smith in Costa Mesa, California, in the 1960s, they are known for verse-by-verse Bible teaching, salvation by grace through faith, believer's baptism, and openness to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Compared with Catholics: they share core teaching about God and Christ, but hold Scripture alone as authority, baptise only believers, and have no hierarchy or Pope. Compared with other evangelicals, the main distinctive is verse-by-verse teaching.
