General guidance · Greek Orthodox churches · not specific to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church
A welcoming service with worship music, Scripture reading, and a sermon. Many churches also offer programs for children, youth, and adults at various times throughout the week.
This church warmly welcomes everyone who walks through their doors. Whether you're exploring faith for the first time or returning after a long absence, you'll find a community ready to welcome you.
What Orthodox churches generally believe
Orthodox Christians believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose again, and the Bible as God's Word, received through Holy Tradition, the Nicene Creed and the seven ecumenical councils. Worship centres on the Divine Liturgy and the Eucharist, with icons, sacraments ("holy mysteries") and a strong emphasis on theosis — growing into union with God by grace.
Compared with Catholics: both have bishops in apostolic succession, seven sacraments and belief in Christ's real presence in the Eucharist; they have been separated since 1054, mainly over the authority of the Pope and the Filioque clause in the Creed. Protestants differ from both chiefly on Scripture alone and the sacraments.
